Early census records in England locate five farms in Devonshire (1266 Assize Rolls). See also Ancient Honeywell farms, Vol. 2, No. 4. One was in Ilsington, where Squire William Honeywell kept a diary of his affairs, Vol. 3, No. 3.
Several unconnected lines of Honeywell families (of various spellings) in North America trace back to Devonshire, England. The primary lines are from progenitors: Ambrose Hunnewell, *Honeywell Heritage* Vol. 2, No 4; Roger Hunnewell, Vol. 1, No. 1; and Captain Samuel Honeywell. Additional unconnected families include Thomas Hunnewell, Vol. 3, No 4; George Hunnewell, and William Henry Honeywell, Vol. 9, No 2. Descendants of Roger Hunnewell are by far the largest group, and for convenience are cataloged by his three sons: Richard, John, and Israel.
